Dear Friends,
just to let you know that we need volunteers for our very nice workcamp

IT-SCI 1.1 Bologna

from 20/04/09 to 2/05/09.

8 vols

This workcamp is organized in the frame of a project called "The forgotten among the forgotten", promoted by SCI Italy, SCI Romania and CESD (European Center of Studies on Discrimination - Bologna), supported by the European Commission. The project deals with the remembrance of the Nazi persecution against LGBT people (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans) and Roma and Sinti people. Its aim is remembering the past to build future cohesion. The project foresees the organization of 3 events, one in Bologna in April, one in Bucarest in May and one in Rome in September. Three workcamps will be organized in the weeks of the events. This one is held in the city of Bologna.

WORK: In the first part of the workcamp volunteers will be engaged in the preparation of a five-day event (22nd-26th April) dealing both with the current situation and discrimination of LGBT people (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans) and the memory of the Nazi persecution against them. Volunteers will have the chance to deepen their knowledge about different aspects of this issue. They will actively take part in the event, from supporting the logistic part to participating in the activities. It is recommended that volunteers take an active role in the event and contribute with their own ideas. Activities foreseen during the event: workshops and public seminars on LGBT discrimination and European legislation on the issue, a public exhibition, some video projections about history of Nazi persecution of LGBT people and more. On April 25th (Day of the Liberation of Italy from Nazi-fascism) the volunteers will go to Monte Sole, on the hills near Bologna, where people from different Italian regions will gather to celebrate this important day. In the second part of the workcamp, volunteers will take part in a theater workshop which will lead to a theatre performance (TDO theatre of the oppressed), about LGBT persecution then and now, led by some experienced actors. During the first days of the workcamp they will train few hours a
day intensifying toward the last days to construct a TDO performance which will be played in public on the next to last evening. Important: TDO is a technique which requires no previous theater experience but willingness to play, everything will be designed and decided as a group.

STUDY: The remembrance of the Nazi persecution against LGBT people (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans) and Roma and Sinti people.

ACCOMODATION: To be defined.

LANGUAGE: English will be the language of the camp.

QUALIFICATIONS: No specific qualifications are needed.

TERMINAL: Bologna.

EXTRA: Only vegetarian food during the work camp. An intercultural evening is foreseen; therefore any kind of folk material (food, music, dress, etc.) from your country will be very welcome.
